Thus Saith the Rick: Rick Warren and the Bloggers

Editors Note:
Due to the frequency of undivine revelations coming from the lips of the notsomighty Rick Warren and the way that people are accepting his words as authority; we here at SAID Radio have decided to make this an ongoing segment that will now be known as “Thus Saith the Rick.”

What has Rick Warren been up to this time? It seems he has decided to take a stab at his critics, the scourge of the internet underworld: the Bloggers.

A little bit of history on the bloggers. They once came to and fro before the presence of Rick Warren and obeyed his every words until one day Chris Rosebrough, ArchPirate of the Saddleback host opened up his Bible and read it's words aloud to everyone present. It became apparent that Rick's Words did not match with what was being said in this Holy Book and Chris decided to post up an article on the internet and start an audio podcast. Infuriated, Rick Warren cast him out of Saddleback and a third of the host followed him. These have been reserved for everlasting darkness in their mother's basement's chained to a beanbag with an endless supply of Cheetos at their side.

Ok, that's not really what happened, but you get the point.

Is John Piper Blessing or Cursing Israel?

EDITOR'S NOTE: Originally I wanted to address the whole of Piper's article but the more I wrote and researched, the longer my response became. For that reason today I will only address one of his arguments and hopefully Michael and I can cover the rest in a future podcast. For now, we will look at Piper and his argument concerning the covenant between God and Abraham/Israel.

Recently David Brickner of “Jews for Jesus” and John Piper had a written debate on Christianity Today regarding the “divine right” of the modern day Jewish people to the Promised Land. Though I do not agree with everything he says, I am at least thankful for David Brickner's response to John Piper's theology on this subject. As for John Piper there is not much I can say. He claims to desire the salvation of all Jews, nor promotes an anti-Semite agenda but unfortunately there comes a problem when you examine his arguments. His careless look at Scripture is slanted towards replacementism; which believes that God has done away with the nation of Israel because of her rejection of the Messiah and assigned her promises to the Church. Although Piper says that he is not against Jewish people, this sort of theology has racist and anti-Semitic roots. I pray that Piper re-looks at his views, as such doctrine can lead to greater errors.

Sin No More!

Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him,“See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.”
John 5:14

In this passage, Jesus has just healed a lame man. Many times through the Bible we see Jesus heal people of their physical infirmities, but He cared for so much more than that. He was concerned more with the salvation of the soul.  In fact, he even says in Mark 2:17, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”  Christ understood our condition, and ultimately while it was prophesied that the Messiah would come and heal the lame, the blind, the sick; he also would come to forgive us of our sins.
My encouragement today is to keep this in mind as we go on about our lives.  The Lord has blessed us immensely!  We may have a good job, a loving family, a roof over our head, or perhaps he has healed many of us of some sort of disease.  If he has, praise the Lord!  But even more important is that our sins our forgiven.  God has given us the righteousness of His Son, and made us right in His own eyes and given us a chance to spend eternity with Him!  Let us rejoice in that today!  This is the blessed hope that awaits us, despite whatever may go on in our lives!

Erwin Raphael McManus : No Talk of Calvary in Calgary

Erwin Raphael McManus : No Talk of Calvary in Calgary
My Review of

Mr. McManus, a man well acquainted within the emergent movement (1) has recently released a 30 minute film called "CRAVE: Calgary" that is meant to be used as an outreach tool to appeal to every human being's soul cravings. Mr. McManus is the tour guide (narrator) as the audience visits a town called Calgary, Alberta where the questions asked of its inhabitants are meant to string together various cravings of the soul leading them to their thoughts on God. Among many other problems I will list below, the biggest is the lack of a Gospel message. Jesus does not appear to be the focus of this film, instead we have the average post-modern appeal one could expect from a guy involved in the Emergent movement.

Fight, Finish, Keep

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
Romans 8:18

Paul was a man who knew suffering.  One only needs to read 2 Corinthians 12 to see what he went through.  Many times he experienced beatings, shipwrecks, hunger, danger of robbers, danger from people (not just his enemies but also people he considered friends). Not only were his afflictions physical there were times he experienced spiritual battles were he even despaired of life. It only takes a momentary reading to see the things he went through are probably far worse than anything you have gone through in your life.
